CREDIT

OK so this is a real post, one where I'm ranting about whatever latest thing is buggin me. So let's talk about CREDIT. This is that elusive, scary thing that many young people don't know enough about and some destroy too soon. Now I won't put all my biz in the streets, but I will say this, I am now a believer that CREDIT is reserved for the elite. The people who have a ton of real property, liquid assets, and existing credit. But, these are the people who shouldn't need it, right? HELLO!!!
So my bathroom is in need of major repairs ASAP. Many of you who know me and have been to my house know that I am not afraid to rip something out and repair/replace myself (with the hubbies help). But somethings, like plumbing, are truly left up to the experts. My bathroom is at a point where no amount of paint and new curtains is gonna fix it. My wonderfully handy husband rigged my shower handle over a year ago and now that rigging is falling apart. So we are faced with a decision.
We need money to do the repairs. Do we get that money from our bank, who requires that you have 1/2 of what you are requesting in liquid assets? Do we apply for the repair companies financing that has 1 year SAC, but has much more stringent requirements?
Donnie and I are a new couple, who have not had any joint CREDIT to date. Regardless of our individual credit standing, I would imagine a small amount of difficulty in establishing new, joint CREDIT.
But what I don't understand is how the CREDIT givers, allow one person to have a 2 inch thick stack of credit cards. I don't understand how couples who have had foreclosure and vehicle repossessions still get loans and spend money like crazy.
Realistically, I am aware that finances is a personal matter and everyone's situation is different. And many people find it an embarrassing topic. I am not embarrassed so much as mad that I can't have what I want. I want to fix my house. I want to be able to sit in some warm water and enjoy a bubble bath. I want to be able to pull back the shower curtain without scaring myself with the mold and mildew growth. I want my son to be able to bathe without leaving an embedded stain around the tub.
We are not part of the elite club of CREDIT worthy people. And I think it is our own fault. Our fault for always paying cash. Our fault for not having a stack of cards to choose from at our disposal. I thought we had been doing the right thing, apparently not!
